CalorLab does one thing — as a daily calorie calculator it turns your basal metabolic rate and activity level into a daily calorie target for losing, gaining or maintaining weight. It multiplies your BMR by an activity factor between 1.2 and 1.9, then applies a deficit or surplus of roughly 500 calories per day for about a pound of change per week. What follows concerns only that tool and the inputs involved in it.

Practically, all the calculation needs is your body measurements and activity level. Typical reasons people open CalorLab include checking whether a maintenance estimate is realistic, and in every case the work happens on the visitor's own device rather than ours.

The nature of this site

calorlab.com is an informational site. What CalorLab produces are estimates of a calculation, not measured facts and not professional guidance.

Limits of health estimates

The health calculators use population-level equations. Two people with identical inputs can have quite different true values, which is why a CalorLab estimate is not a measurement. These tools do not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. Talk to a qualified clinician before changing your diet, supplementation or exercise, particularly during pregnancy or when managing a condition or medication.

No guarantees

On CalorLab the key assumption is that you entered a case the method covers. It multiplies your BMR by an activity factor between 1.2 and 1.9, then applies a deficit or surplus of roughly 500 calories per day for about a pound of change per week. Within that we choose the method and inputs carefully; outside it, and wherever rounding, unit handling or browser quirks intrude, the Site comes with no warranty.
